FIRST STEP
I am sure you want to know how to clean the couch and remove odors quickly! Your couch can get pretty smelly because of pets, kids, or cigarette smoke. Or maybe, just like me, you have a secondhand couch in your basement and want to clean that up. But how do we freshen that up quickly, easily, and cheaply? Here is an excellent hack for that!
Things you need:
- Spray bottle
- Baking soda
- Cleaning glove
- Old towel
- Rubbing alcohol
Next, get your spray bottle filled with water and spray it all over your couch. You will create a bot of moisture in your sofa. Don’t forget the arms of the couch.
SECOND STEP
Once you have finished spraying the water, get a small bowl of baking soda. You will sprinkle the baking soda on your couch. I love baking soda because it helps with getting rid of anything smelling. For example, you can sprinkle it in your shoes and keep it in your refrigerator. It helps to eliminate the odor! So baking soda is our natural product hero! Depending on the smell you have on your couch, you can sprinkle more or less baking soda.
THIRD STEP
Next, wear your cleaning gloves and get ready for the fun! I used my Dollar tree cleaning gloves for this. They are cheap and work so awesome that I have multiple of them.
- I like to make the couch wet before this whole rubbing baking soda step because sodium sticks better to the fabric.
You can use an old towel to rub the baking soda on your couch in circular motions. You want to get down into the fabric by rubbing in circular motions. You will do this to your entire couch.
If you have other things to do and are busy, this is the time we let this sit for at least 30 minutes. If you can let it sit longer, the better odor will eliminate.
FOURTH STEP
Next step, you will vacuum the entire couch thoroughly. If you feel like there is excess baking soda your vacuum didn’t pick up, you can get a wet washcloth and rub the couch.
This wasn’t the part we disinfected the couch, so we will get into that next! We will use 70% rubbing alcohol. You can fill the spray bottle with alcohol and start spraying on the couch. I find this so helpful because alcohol disinfects and dries very fast. I have never had issues, but if you worry, you can always try out the alcohol on the back of your couch and decide how much you want to spray.

FINAL STEP
The final step of removing the odor on your couch is spraying one of your favorite fabrics/room fresheners. I used my favorite Mrs. Meyer’s peony scent. I love this freshener because it’s made with essential oils and paraben free. So you can use it if you are looking for a child/pet-friendly product.
Now that you know how to clean the couch and remove odors and disinfect your couch, you can enjoy it, my friends!
